I believe that a Christian counselor's
ability to help individual couples or families will
be most greatly enhanced by approaching the concerns
and issues my clients bring to me by applying compassion
and Biblically based nuggets of Christian counseling.
I believe that all truth is God's truth and therefore,
little lasting change will occur if we fail to integrate
Biblical principles into the lives of those who come
to Dayspring Counseling for hope and help where the
whole person is dealt with, body, soul, and spirit.
Areas of Expertise
I
have had CSW distinction from the State of Michigan
since 1974 and am also a Licensed Marriage and Family
Therapist. I am one of thirteen Registered Play Therapists-Supervisors
that have met stringent qualifications to be credentialed
by the Association of Play Therapists in California.
I have over thirty years of experience as a therapist,
educator, and administrator. I am experienced working
with children, adolescents, families, couples, and adults
of all ages. Over the past thirty years, I have worked
successfully with hundreds of marriages and families
that have experienced major difficulties including work
with couples experiencing sexual dysfunction.
I have specialized in working with individuals
who have been sexually traumatized and abused including
ritual abuse by using both individual and group therapy.
I have become well known for my work with individuals
that are suffering from sexually compulsive problems.
I have also demonstrated expertise working with individuals
who are struggling with a wide range of depression problems
as well as anxiety related difficulties which includes
people struggling with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.
Experience
I have worked successfully with hundreds
of couples, parents (married, single, widowed, dovorced,
adoptive, and foster) and families with an array of
life issues and concerns that have sought Christian
counseling help and intervention.
From my previous years
of working in residential treatment centers for children
and teens and their respective families with many
children coming from multiple foster care placements
and high risk adoptions, I have developed an excellent
reputation for the successful practice of developing
solid counseling relationships with young people and
their respective parents. I have successfully worked
with and helped a few thousand children/teenagers and
their families over the past thirty years. As the only
Christian play therapist supervisor in West Michigan,
I have put together my own playroom in my office that
I use with kids, teens, and occasionally some adults.
I have a one-way mirrored window that I can use to
video tape from that is helpful in working with parents
of a child that is seriously struggling with life
issues.
Other Points of Interest
Being raised on a farm in Southern Michigan
as the oldest of two brothers born to parents who were
generous and loving and yet instilled the virtues of
hard work and personal responsibility, gave me a worldview
that I am grateful for today. I learned to appreciate
the richness and wisdom of an older generation as I
grew up being very close to both of my grandmothers.
The life learning experiences of seeing God's presence
and handiwork through the seasons, has helped me as
a husband of twenty-five years to my life, LeAnne, and
as father of two sons who are now in their young college
age years.
